The ranks are listed as lowest to highest. Please not that races such as Vampires or Demons may have these ranks if they are masquerading as human or, in the case of vampires, as an elf. If they are quite obviously neither race, however, their rank would be criminal, as they are going to be sought out as monsters and outlaws.
Rank | Description |
Slave![]() |
Slaves have no rights. They own nothing, just as a chair or table owns nothing. Their lives are entirely dictated by their owners. They may be abused or well treated, depending on their master. Most owners encourage their slaves to procreate and have families, usually in shacks set apart on their properties. By letting their slaves breed, they ensure that their families have workers. Some families breed and sell slaves like cattle. |
Criminal![]() |
A criminal, for whatever reason, is an individual that is not welcome in society. They have been identified for their crimes, even if they have not yet been captured and dealt with (imprisoned or executed, depending on the crime). Some criminals are the results of bad blood between themselves and a person or persons of power, so it is not fair to say that all criminals are necessarily dangerous or evil. They are just wanted and have to watch their step in public, if they are even safe to enter civilization at all. |
Free Citizen![]() |
Free citizens are generally peasants, and their existance is not an easy one.
While they are not on the level of slave, their living conditions are usually substandard
at best. A citizen may be a barmaid, farmer, musician, stablehand, or any other kind of
menial job up to and including maids for nobility. They often have to depend on
nobility for their livelihoods and thus survival, so it is not uncommon for
nobility to take advantage of them.
|
Merchant![]() |
Merchants are the shop keepers and traders who stimulate the economy. They may be
the small town store or inn owner or the big city brothel managers who own stores, ships,
and more. They employee people, start businesses, and ensure that their businesses run
smoothly.
|
Nobility![]() |
Nobility are high society, "old money" families. They are trained to dress fashionably,
engage themselves in education, art, and business, attend parties and basically play the
political game. Most noble families are not powerful enough to be a threat to royalty, but
they are threats to each other. They might try to have members of a rival business assassinated
or ruin relationships to see that their kin marry into a certain family rather than the kin of
their rivals.
|
Royalty![]() |
Royalty are kings, queens, princes, and princesses. They are highly educated and
live lives of both leisure and responsibility. They are trained in war strategies,
in politics, in economics, and usually in both weaponry and horseback riding. They
are trained to rule their people, whomever their race or people may be, and depending on
the personal traits or flaws they have, they may or may not do so successfully.
|
Seers![]() |
Seers are a very unique rank set apart from the usual hierarchy. They choose the
vocations and wives of every member of society when the person comes of age (18 for
humans, 120 for elves). They weave this into a tapestry they have been weaving for
centuries. In the past, some foolish young people have tried to reweave this tapesty,
and all of those involved - those tampering and those whose lives were being rearranged -
died a horrific death within days of the vandalism. Even entering the area of the temple
in which the Seers keep the tapestry is a crime punishable by immediate execution.
